He traveled to Berlin to win gold. Even though he didn’t achieve this goal, he is satisfied with a place on the podium. Andrey Govorov, a star for Ukrainian Swimming, won the bronze medal in the 50m butterfly at the European Championships in Berlin.
In the beautifully set pool inside Velodrom, Govorov was presented on the starting blocks as the fastest man on the planet in this event, after the 22”87 he recorded in the prelims. That time would have brought him on the top of the podium had he repeated it in the finals. Instead, he stopped the clock in 23”21 and shared bronze with British Benjamin Proud.
First place was also shared between Frenchman Olympic Champion Florent Manaudou and Belarusian Yauhen Tsurkin. They both swam the 50fly in 23”00.
This result for Govorov is only the beginning of outstanding performances during this competition!
